A condition, where the inner lining of uterus called endometrium gets deposited on other internal organs, resulting in scarring, chocolate cysts of ovary, etc. Patients usually complain of severe menstrual pain, infertility & painful intercourse.
Laparoscopy helps in establishing the diagnosis. Early disease is treated by burning the endometriotic spots with electric current or excisional biopsy. Chocolate cysts can be removed & adhesions cut by Laparoscopy. The benefit of Laparoscopy is that surgery can be done with small 2-3 incisions, leaving fine scars. Most patients can be discharged within 24hours.
