Avoiding Hysterectomy

In today’s modern times there are many options to avoid removal of uterus, in cases of excessive menstrual bleeding. Some of these include TCRE and Intrauterine system (LNG device) insertion.
TCRE – Trans Cervical Resection of Endometrium (TCRE), is a minimally invasive treatment for excessive menstrual bleeding, without the need to remove the uterus. The surgery is done on a daycare basis by shaving off the endometrium (inner lining of uterus), with an electrical wire loop (resectoscope).
Hysteroscopy has some major benefits over a blind D&C. It provides visualization of the uterine cavity, provides tissue for biopsy from the most suspicious location & often provides a complete cure.

Intrauterine system (LNG device)
This is a special loop, which releases hormone in a small, fixed dose. This can be inserted inside the uterus, on an outpatient basis and provides both contraception & relief from heavy bleeding for upto five years, in about 90% of patients.
