Fibroids are one of the commonest tumours in women. They have an overall incidence of 35%, most of them showing a peak age incidence between 40 to 44 years. In one fourth of all patients fibroids do not cause any problem & are often diagnosed accidently. Symptoms of uterine fibroids include pressure in the abdomen and heavy (in a few cases painful) menstrual periods. In some cases, fibroids can even add to infertility related problems. One fourth of the women with fibroids experience difficulties getting pregnant, though it can be treated in most cases. Growth rate of fibroids is variable & they tend to shrink after menopause.

Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive technique of removing fibroids, while conserving the uterus. With the laparoscopic approach there are fine, small scars, which result in less pain, one day hospital stay and much faster recovery. With rapidly evolving medical science, it is possible to do a daycare laparoscopic myomectomy.
